Cap La Fishing Village

An old-school village

Cap La is a small fishing village lying between Bai Tu Long and Halong Bay. There are 80 family holders with more than 200 people living in the village. Their main livelihood is fishing and aquaculture. Traditionally, each boat in the floating village is a separate household, though the raft or boat always serves more than one function. It is a home, a means of transport, and a source of income. Children go to school until the age of 12 years, then stop for working as fishermen. There is no national electricity system here. The local have to use the electricity generators. It is hard and expensive to buy clean water and petrol here.

People’s biggest concern here is to earn a living, that’s why they don’t really care if there are tourists coming here and having fun. The sea seems to account all of their minds.
