We boarded this boat and cruised the Mekong River for 24 hours after driving 4 hours from Saigon. Gecko Eyes is a private boat so there are no other guests except us.
Beautiful excursion with a polite captain, chef (excellent food), and guide. We ended up near the Cambodian border, so if you do this cruise, consider continuing to Phnom Penh via speedboat.
The ship Gecko Eyes II is lovely, the chef offered far more food than we could eat, it was well-presented, the cabin crew and guide were all unfailingly nice and engaging
There is only one thing that keeps me from giving perfect marks across the board, and it's a function of the Gecko Eyes company, not Best Price Vietnam. When we left the ship in the morning for an excursion on a smaller boat, our guide asked us to be ready to leave our cabin so that they could prepare it for the next guests, although he assured us we'd be able to use the toilet. When we returned from the excursion the Gecko Eyes II was already tied up at its company dock and staff were busy coming and going resupplying the ship. This was well before noon, less that 24 hours after we had originally boarded. If we were to have eaten the lunch included before concluding the program we'd have been sitting tied up next to the company's other ships, in a warehouse environment, with deck hands walking right through the dining area carrying boxes of supplies for their next clients. This felt entirely mercenary to us. It seemed as if the Gecko Eyes company decided they already had our money and didn't need us anymore, so they didn't bother to, say, cruise the river until we'd eaten, offering us a view of something other than their dock's work area. And booting us from our cabin so they could change the sheets showed us they didn't care as much about our experience on the boat as they did getting the next clients in. We declined the final lunch and left early. Less
